position purpose

This fws position leads the running of Kesho Leo children’s village. The Kesho Leo Manager works to achieve the annual strategic goals of the organisation; ensure the application of fws policies, systems and procedures; and assures communication with fws Board and management team.

The position is supported by a number of key positions both at Kesho Leo (KL Advisor, Finance Manager, Health, Education, Social Welfare and Permaculture (HESP) Managers, Volunteer Village (VV) Coordinator) and in Australia (fws Board and management team).


  • Lead the fws Arusha NGO, ensuring it meets all local requirements and is clearly aligned with the broader fws vision and strategic plans.
  • Work with the fws Board and management teams in Australia to coordinate the planning, implementation and reporting of Kesho Leo children’s village programs according to strict deadlines and within budget.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of Program Managers in Tanzania (volunteers and staff) to ensure adequate implementation of KL programs (Health, Education, Social Welfare and Permaculture).
  • Ensure fws policies and procedures are followed up on program identification and implementation. Identify new areas of intervention and recommend amendments to current programs.
  • Provide monthly reports on project updates at Kesho Leo/volunteer village to the fws Board and management team, taking input from Kesho Leo lead staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure KL program implementation is aligned with the approved annual budget, and support the Finance Manager in the preparation and revisions of the annual budget.
  • Manage KL human resources: assure contracts are aligned with local regulations, conduct annual performance reviews and professional development plans.
  • Manage KL volunteers, ensuring they are provided with the necessary resources, facilities and support to have a successful and fulfilling placement.
  • Develop and maintain effective fws networks with local NGOs to share resources and knowledge within community groups and develop and maintain relationships with local businesses and services in Arusha.
  • Maintain all Kesho Leo property, identifying, troubleshooting and addressing maintenance issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure security procedures and requirements are followed by staff and volunteers, and work to develop further improvements.
