fws Auditor



Position Purpose

The role of the fws Auditor is to undertake independent appraisals of accounting, managerial controls and related areas within fws to ensure the sound operation of accounting, financial and other activities, maintain integrity and consistency in financial reporting and comply with relevant legislation, policies and codes of conduct.


  • Prepare and submit reports on the result of audits, recommending improvements in policies and procedures as necessary to contribute to continuous operational improvement
  • Audit accounting, operational and statistical data from relevant teams within fws to verify accuracy or compliance with policy
  • Cooperate with outside auditors in any undertaking which may expedite their work to contribute to greater operational efficiency
  • Confer with staff within fws on policy and procedural matters that arise in the course of an audit to ensure volunteers have a greater understanding of obligations and codes of conduct
  • Obtain information and, where required, provide procedural explanations to assist volunteers in the completion of their duties when undertaking audits
  • Monitor and ensure accounting documentation complies with legal requirements and that documentary evidence is available to verify transactions to ensure data consistency and accuracy
  • Assist in the development and implementation of auditing policies, procedures and programs within fws to ensure activities comply with legal and ethical standards
  • Provide auditing advice to volunteers including management and the Board to educate and inform internal decision making
  • Maintain a day to day knowledge of auditing and professional standards, and apply them to audit procedure.
  • Assist and advise on stat accounts and annual report preparation
  • Understand rules and regulations for both overseas accounting and building projects

Key performance indicators

  • Assist with the updating of MYOB system at all times
  • Regular audit reporting to the fws treasurer
  • Regularly support the management and Board with audit recommendations to m improve compliance and minimise risk
  • Support the annual report process

Liaise with

  • fws Treasurer
  • fws Accountant and Auditor as part of the Finance team
  • fws management and Board

Report to

  • fws Treasurer


5 hours per week


12 months minimum – lots more months hopefully

Skills & Requirements

  • Auditing or accounting qualifications
  • Not for Profit experience or knowledge
  • Solid understanding of accounting standards and relevant legislation
  • Well developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Support the broader fws vision by offering input where relevant
  • Understand and adhere to the values of fws, as outlined on fws website
  • Desire to be make a difference while contributing to a fun but dedicated group of volunteers
