position purpose
The role of the
fws IT Website and Online Communication Support Officer is to be responsible for all things web-based. You will manage the content of
fws's entire internet presence, utilising all web-based resources to help grow
fws and increase its global reach.
responsibilities

Manage all fws IT website and email marketing needs
- Develop and maintain a strategic plan for the internet presence of fws
- Utilise Facebook, Twitter, email etc to maximise the global reach of fws
- Develop and articulate the overall focus and concept for the fws website
- Develop, research, lay out, write/edit new sections/features for the website
- Determine placement of all new information submitted by various fws resources
- Monitor chats and webmaster mail to identify topics that might be fitting for new sections of the home page and trends or items that could be of interest to the management committee
- Work with the IT team to maximise the impact of the IT function within fws
- Assist in using your programming skills with the aim of creating a new website using the open source CMS, Drupal. This will include having a keen eye for detail and working alongside a designer to translate the design into an easy to use CMS system
- Provide training and assistance to other fws volunteers that will need to update the website content
- Mapping out the ‘conceptual design’ for a planned database in outline
- Considering both 'back end' organisation of data and 'front end' accessibility for end users
- Refining the ‘logical design’ so that it can be translated into a specific data model
- Further refining the ‘physical design’ to meet system storage requirements
Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
- Maintaining data standards
- Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions
- Controlling access permissions and privileges
- Seek out new IT solutions to help promote fws and to make the management and operation of the organisation more effective
- Aid in minimising fws exposure and risk on projects with solid and relevant IT advice

Achieve a broad understanding within the fws management team of web opportunities
- Restructure fws email addresses so they are not personal, but instead are around key teams
- Work with the IT team to introduce a html newsletter for gimme shelter
- In 2009/10 explore IT-based marketing campaigns Twitter, Facebook, develop i-touch application for fws etc)
- Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
- Ensures the fws website is current
- Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
- Relays relevant web-related information to fws in a timely manner
- Sends a weekly update of IT web developments to the fws IT Manager

Expert level in HTML, JavaScript and basic programming
- Database design and development
- Solid grounding in the Internet and it’s many communications tools
- A friendly personality and the patience to explain things to non-technically-minded people
- Ability to prioritise workload in liaison with fws IT Manager
- Social interest in the less fortunate
