Take a look at the fantastic items that have already been kindly donated and delivered to Kesho Leo!
Generator/Garden Storage Shed and Equipment
Kesho Leo is very happy to be able to build a large, solid, lockable shed with a concrete floor to help safely manage our composting systems and house the awesome equipment
fws acquires through generous donations – such as a new generator! Like all things at Kesho Leo, we want to do this right so that it lasts well into the future, rain or shine!
Pigpen
Thanks to the Shopping List, Kesho Leo is now able to build a large pen that is connected to the pigs' current home. As well as allowing the pigs to wallow in the mud, search for food and generally be happier pigs, it also allows Kesho Leo to be a positive example to the community of how to have your pigs outside and part of your farm, rather than in small, cement enclosures as is often the case.
Tanzanian Early Education Teachers
Number funded: 2 part-time positions per annum.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers,
fws is already providing a variety of educational opportunities but where the magic really happens is with our Tanzanian teachers. The Kesho Leo Early Learning Centre includes a pre-school, nursery and tuition centre for Kesho Leo kids and the wider community. Kesho Leo Tanzanian teachers facilitate programs in our already successful bilingual pre-school, working half-time each week-day morning in line with our programs.
Tanzanian Nurse
Number funded:
1 year salary and on-costs for half-time employee
A Tanzanian nurse will help our volunteer nurse provide health education and consultations in Kiswahili, ensuring that our services are clearly understood and culturally appropriate. They will also translate our health promotion literature so that Kesho Leo residents and the wider community have health information at their fingertips.
Porridge
Number sold: 45
Breakfast time! Kesho Leo's pre-primary education classes provide a positive learning experience for children from the local community. Thanks to the Shopping List, we now have the resources to provide porridge each morning to our students, so that they can listen to our teachers and not the rumbling of their tummies!
Although we have our needs covered for 2011, this is an on-going cost, so we will shortly be looking for porridge purchases for 2012. You can fund a child's daily school porridge
for a year for only $18!
Pre-school scholarship places for local children
Number sold: 20
Pre-school education is a prerequisite to entering primary school, with the annual fee for a local school being $30. Unfortunately the cost of pre-school is out of reach for some caregivers. But thanks to Shopping List Scholarships, a number of children who may otherwise have missed out, are currently enjoying pre-school!
We will shortly be looking for pre-school scholarships for 2012. You can provide a pre-school scholarship for only $30. What a simple but powerful hand-up!
External hard drives for Kesho Leo office
Number donated: 2
Kesho Leo's volunteer and Tanzanian staff create important documents as part of their working life. We are grateful to have had two external hard drives donated, for secure back-up and archiving.
Scanner
With over 12,000kms between Arusha and Australia there often comes a time when important documents need to make their way home safe and sound - without the snail mail delay! Scanning licenses, passports, registration certificates and employment contracts are all important parts of running an international non-governmental-organisation, and now having a scanner of our very own at Kesho Leo has helped make this process smooth and simple!
Money maker pump and hose
A foot-operated pump and hose now helps Kesho Leo pump water from its ponds into the farm at the volunteer village in the dry season. Go, go leg power!
Back-up Generator
Thank you Cotton On Foundation!
Our old diesel back-up generator was on its last legs and generating more noise than power. But thanks to the
Cotton On Foundation, and the Shopping List, the amazing Kesho Leo solar power system now has a reliable generator to sustain the life of its batteries by keeping them topped up when sunshine isn’t enough.
Volunteer Village Organic Farm Fence
Kesho Leo’s commercial organic crops were vulnerable to a bit of overnight nibbling from grazing livestock, but they are now protected thanks to a livestock-proof fence built by local labourers, employed with help of the Shopping List.
