The Kesho Krew kick-started the Easter long weekend with an Easter egg hunt for all Kesho residents. On Wednesday night, we hard-boiled several dozen eggs. Then, our Education Manager, Hannah, and a short-term volunteer, Amy, decorated the eggs with food dye and candle wax. Any arts’n’crafts responsibilities lie firmly with these two!

The next afternoon, we hid the eggs in the Kesho Leo shamba and gathered all the mamas and kids to lay down a few ground-rules, ie one egg per person. Whilst none of our Kesho residents had heard of an Easter egg hunt before, they quickly became excited at the thought of playing an “Easter game, similar to hide-and-seek”.

There were lots of squeals of delight emanating from the shamba as the mamas and kids found eggs under the lettuce, inside a bunch of bananas, sitting in the fork of a tree and nestled in the maize. And not only was the Easter egg hunt fun for all, the eggs were eagerly devoured and provided the Kesho residents with a terrific and nutritious source of protein.
