Krismasi at Kesho Leo

Worldwide, Christmas, or rather Krismasi in Kiswahili, is often described as a time of celebration, a time of sharing and counting ones blessings while bestowing some on others, less fortunate
In the spirit of this, and as a way of saying thank you to all fws Tanzanian employees for their hard work and dedication throughout 2011, foodwatershelter presented each employee with a Krismasi zawadi (gift): 1kg Rice, 2kg Sugar, a large loaf of bread and printed family photos taken at Kesho Leo before Christmas.
“The Christmas gifts that we received were very nice and greatly appreciated. The gift was good for those who otherwise could not afford such food during this time and contributed to the workers and their families Christmas celebrations” says William, fws’ Librarian for the new Kesho Leo Francis Kealy Library.

The Kesho Leo Mamas and kids were also presented with a Christmas bonus that allowed them to purchase new clothes and shoes and contribute to any trips being taken to visit their extended families. A collage of family photos was also given to each of the Kesho Leo families along with a bundle of yummy chocolate delights that were kindly donated from a visitor to Kesho Leo.
A Christmas Disco Party was also put on for the Mamas, kids and workers at Kesho Leo earlier in the month. Kindly organised by Kesho Leo Education Manager, Jenny, a.k.a. dance extraordinaire, the residents, workers and volunteers were all invited for a boogie and juice to quench their party spirits. With a selection of both local and international music tunes the party was well embraced into the night.
Whilst many things are often in short supply (such as luxuries and the like) particularly during these festive times; Tanzanian families always manage to ‘make do’ with what they have, never lacking sustenance and reminding us to appreciate what we have, to have fun and treasure those rare moments we share with our loved ones and the new friends and people we meet throughout the year.

Thank you to all our wonderful supporters, sponsors, friends and family who make fws' Kesho Leo project possible – we couldn’t do it without you!

Best wishes for the coming New Year!
