Take a look at the progress house mama Elizabeth has made since joining fws.
progress report (october 2008)
Elizabeth now has her health back. No longer bedridden with malaria, typhoid and pneumonia, Elizabeth is now able to work the mornings at Kesho Leo helping to build her new home, and working in the vegetable gardens at the farm.
Her allowance now enables her to be able to buy vegetables and fresh cow's milk to fill her children's tummies, and she has used some of her savings to rent land and buy seeds, and is now growing vegetables to sell to supplement her income from fws.
Elizabeth is a very hard worker and is very determined to provide a good future for her kids. She is also very excited about taking on more children when she moves in to Kesho Leo.
progress report (july 2009)
Where’s Elizabeth? Working in the Kesho Leo shamba (farm), every time! Thanks to the hands-on lessons she’s received from Eve, our fab
fws volunteer with permaculture expertise, Elizabeth is fast coming a hot-shot composter and a whiz at preparing garden beds. Her son, Patrick, isn’t far behind her. He’s growing up fast, and has lovingly taken on the self-appointed role of 'man of the house'.
Patrick 'works' alongside his mama, helping her out with eco-farm chores whenever he’s not studying. Sister Diana also loves to work when she’s not studying, however youngest sister, Nanci, has other ideas. She prefers to play rather than work and informs us that, in fact, she 'never wants to grow up'!
Finally, eldest sister, Dativa, who had surgery earlier this year to repair an umbilical hernia, has recovered well. She was home the day after surgery and was back to her normal self in no time. Well done, Dativa!
