The primary responsibility of the
Gimme Shelter Editor is to manage the design and content of the
fws
Gimme Shelter monthly e-newsletter, ensuring the tone and content is consistent with the overall aims and objectives of
fws.
responsibilities
- Write the
Gimme Shelter e-newsletter each month, ensuring there is a consistent cross-section of topics each month, including news from fws Australia as well as on the ground in Tanzania
- Contact fws teams in Australia and Tanzania for weekly news updates (via email) and consolidate the most exciting news elements into the monthly e-newsletter, summarising key updates from each team in Tanzania
- Ensure there is a balance of content, with a broad focus to include mamas and kids, education, building, health, eco-friendly and sustainability, community involvement, fundraising, events in Australia, thank you messages and member profiles
- Work with fws Tanzania direct and fws photo editor to collate fws images to use for the e-newsletter, ensuring there is a broad range of sharp images (hi-resolution, in focus) used that include volunteers, education, social & health centre & activities, permaculture & eco-friendly elements, building and fundraising events
- Working with the fws gratitude officer, fws treasurer and fws management team, to ensure that major funding acknowledgements and recognitions are included in the newsletter on a monthly basis. This is an imperative part of the e-newsletter
- Ensure a positive, proactive, progressive and fun tone is maintained each month
- Liaise with the fws membership coordinator to complete profiles of fws members to include in the newsletter where possible
- Look for new, creative ways to present information if an element of the e-newsletter has become tired
- Look for innovative new elements to include in the e-newsletter from time to time
- Work with fws
Gimme Shelter subeditor in a timely, efficient manner to ensure the e-newsletter is error-free
- Ensure a draft copy of the e-newsletter is sent to fws management committee before
Gimme Shelter is sent to fws subeditor
- Work with fws website subeditor to ensure website pages mentioned in newsletter are up-to-date before newsletter goes out
- Ensure newsletter is completed and circulated within the agreed monthly timeframe

- Plenty of experience and a natural ability to write friendly, up-vibe, positive copy about a project you love as much as we do. If you can throw in a few jokes for free, you're hired
- Obsessive-compulsive organisational skills - you must boast an ability to organise others via email/phone/whatever it takes to deliver what you need in time to meet the
Gimme Shelter deadlines
- An eye for positive, uplifting, inspiring photography and design (we don't want our newsletter to look yuck, nor do you!)
