Dear fws friends and supporters,
We have received tragic news this week that
Ester Mbaga, beloved Kesho Leo house mama and leader, has passed away suddenly. Ester has been receiving medical treatment over the last two weeks, however the cause of death remains unknown. The mamas and all of the foodwatershelter community are deeply shocked and very upset.
Ester leaves behind three beautiful children - Joseph, Gladness (many know her as 'Nai') and Sharon. The children are being cared for by the other mamas at Kesho Leo and their wider community.
Many in the foodwatershelter community knew Ester and loved her. A memorial service was held by the community on Wednesday 2nd November at Kesho Leo. The mamas prepared food and it was an opportunity for all to grieve and say goodbye.
This weekend, fws board member and previous Kesho Leo project manager, Kelsey Wilson will return to Arusha to personally pass on our condolences to the Kesho Leo family. Kelsey will also ensure that all in the community understand that the Kesho Leo project will continue through this hardship with the support of all involved. We have a strong Tanzanian staff and volunteer team on the ground who will work with our board to conduct an inquiry into Ester’s passing and ensure the continued success of Kesho Leo.
We are deeply saddened to bring this news to you. Please contact us if you have any queries or you would like to discuss Ester’s passing further.
This is written on behalf of the Kesho Leo community and all involved in foodwatershelter.
