position purpose
The role of the IT Support Officer is to learn all aspects of the IT function for
fws, and act as a support resource for all other IT team members. This will involve supporting the website, database and hardware, as well as using all IT capability and resources to expand the reach of
fws globally.
responsibilities
- Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
- Talking volunteers through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone
- Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults
- Finding solutions to problems, be it through creating a desktop shortcut or fixing a major fault on the operating system
- Providing support, including procedural, documentation
- Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system
- Supporting new applications
- Setting up new users
- Prioritising and managing several issues at one time
- Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with other IT team members
- Testing and evaluating new technology
- Working closely with the IT manager and the broader IT team
- Aid in minimising fws exposure and risk on projects with solid and relevant IT advice

- Proactively work with the IT team to assist in the development of all IT areas, including:
- Website
- Database
- Hardware
- Programming
- Ancillary
- Weekly liaison with other IT team members
- Actively approach fws volunteers to support their IT requirements/issues
- Resolve and/or escalate issues to the IT Manager in a timely fashion
- Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
- Sends a weekly IT activity update to the fws IT Manager

- Enjoy learning highly technical roles
- Able to think logically and analytically in a troubleshooting and problem-solving environment
- Good oral and written communication skills and is an active listener
- Are able to quickly understand complex issues
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- Are willing to continuously update IT skills and knowledge
- A friendly personality and the patience to explain things to non-technically-minded people
- Ability to prioritise workload in liaison with fws IT Manager
- Social interest in the less fortunate
