Job Description:
We require a qualified Human Resources expert, who specializes in recruitment, retention and performance management to facilitate
fws's Australia-based volunteers to do their magic.
fws's Recruitment & Retention Manager will enjoy being actively involved in hiring and nurturing (regular checking in on) Australia-based
fws volunteers (ie as opposed to volunteers heading over to Tanzania to volunteer "on the ground" at Kesho Leo children's village). This is an important role as it's these Australia-based volunteers who fuel the day-to-day running of
fws, so we're keen to look after them!
This role will require the R&RM to make contact with interested volunteers (usually in conjunction with one of the following
fws founders, Shona, Anne, or Kelsey and usually face-to-face, but by phone if distance necessitates). At this meeting, the potential volunteer will be given an introduction to
fws - the the beliefs, the values, the history etc, and should also be interviewed about what role the volunteer might best be suited to - and how that role might work (what time commitments it will require, who the volunteer will be working with and reporting to, what types of roles the volunteer usually enjoys, etc).
After this meeting, if the volunteer's application is successful, the R&RM will be responsible for giving the volunteer a written job description that outlines
fws's 3-month trial period, and yearly review system. (The yearly review system is something that our HR Admin (HRA) person is creating. It is important to
fws's sustainability as an organisation, because as we grow, we need to ensure all of our volunteers are achieving their goals.
This role would also require the R&RM to make a monthly call around to
fws's Australia-based volunteers to see how they're going in terms of motivation, job enjoyment and making an effective contribution. The idea is that the R&RM is on call for volunteers who are may need to debrief, voice concerns, or generally just problem-solve any issues they have around volunteering with
fws. After hearing these concerns, the R&RM would need to raise them with the
fws board members and the
fws HR Team Building Manager so they can be addressed.
Occasionally, the R&RM will need to facilitate happy departures for
fws volunteers, when it is agreed that the volunteering arrangement is no longer mutually beneficial for the volunteer and
fws.
Finally, the R&RM will need to keep an updated volunteer register (for Australia-based volunteers only - we already have a volunteer manager keeping a register of international volunteers) with all relevant details.
fws is legally obliged to do this.
